Public Transport vs. Walking Route
The distance from Temple 53, Enmyoji, to Temple 54, Enmeiji, is approximately 34 km. For walking pilgrims, the journey takes around 10 hours, making it a fairly long section to complete in a single day.
By taking the JR Yosan Line, you can travel approximately 31 km by train from Iyo-Wake Station to Onishi Station. You still need to walk for about an hour from the station to the temple, but the train significantly reduces the amount of long-distance walking.
Advantages of Taking the Train
The main purpose of using the train on this section is not necessarily to avoid mountain trails, but rather to cover a long distance more efficiently.
It can be particularly useful if you want to limit the number of kilometers you walk in a single day or reach the next temple earlier.
On the other hand, if you have plenty of time and want to experience as much of the pilgrimage on foot as possible, you can also choose to walk the entire section.
