Taking the Train and Bus
From Tatsueji to Minami-Komatsushima, you can take either a bus or the JR Mugi Line.
From Minami-Komatsushima to Ikuna, take a bus. From Ikuna Bus Stop, walk approximately 4 km, or about 2 hours, to Kakurinji.
Even when using public transportation, you cannot avoid the climb to Kakurinji.
Therefore, rather than thinking of this route as a way to avoid walking altogether, it is better to think of it as a way to travel the approximately 10 km from Tatsueji to Ikuna by public transportation and save your energy for the climb to Kakurinji.
Walking to Kakurinji
Walking the entire route takes approximately 4 hours 30 minutes and covers about 13 km.
One advantage of walking is that you do not have to worry about public transportation schedules and can travel at your own pace.
However, Kakurinji is located at an elevation of approximately 500 m, so a significant climb awaits you during the latter part of the route.
Which Route Is Recommended?
If you want to save your energy for the climb to Kakurinji, using public transportation is recommended.
In particular, traveling the approximately 10 km from Tatsueji to Ikuna by public transportation allows you to save energy for the climb to Kakurinji.
On the other hand, if you have plenty of time and are comfortable walking a long distance, you can also walk the entire route.
