Hello, I’m Taka, the creator of this blog.
I completed the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage twice on foot, both clockwise and counterclockwise.
In this article, I’ve compiled accommodation information for the roughly 40 km section from Kannoura to Cape Muroto.
While this area offers spectacular coastal scenery, there are some important things to keep in mind. After passing Kannoura, there are no train services, and transportation is mainly limited to buses. In addition, accommodations and supermarkets become much less common, so it is recommended to plan your lodging and food supplies in advance.

Highlights of This Area

The route from Kannoura to Cape Muroto follows the coastline along the Pacific Ocean, offering pilgrims continuous ocean views throughout the journey.
While the scenery is breathtaking, this section also exposes travelers to the harshness of nature. In summer, there are very few places to escape the strong sunlight, while in winter, powerful sea winds can make the walk especially challenging.
For walking pilgrims, another important point is the lack of shops after passing Sakihama. From there to Muroto City, where Temple 25, Shinsho-ji, is located, there are almost no supermarkets or convenience stores along the roughly 30 km stretch.
Whether you plan to camp outdoors or stay at accommodations, it is highly recommended to prepare enough food and drinks in advance before entering this section.
