Recommended Accommodation: Temples 25–27 in Kochi

Accommodation Guide for Cape Muroto

Hello. My name is “Taka,” and I run this blog.
I have completed the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage on foot, completing two full circuits in total—both clockwise and counterclockwise.

The Kochi area covering Temples 25 to 27 follows a coastal route from Cape Muroto toward Nahari.
In particular, Temple 27, Kōnomine-ji, is known as a difficult section called a “henro korogashi” (a steep, challenging stretch of the pilgrimage), so choosing suitable accommodation is very important.

In this article, from the perspective of someone who has completed the pilgrimage on foot, I will introduce recommended accommodations by area.

Key points of this area

Sunset over Tosa Bay

This section of the route heads north while overlooking Tosa Bay. You spend a long time walking along the coastline, and especially in the evening, you can enjoy beautiful sunsets.

In addition, Temple 27, Kōnomine-ji, is known as a difficult section due to the long distances between the surrounding temples. It is approximately 27 km from the previous temple and about 37 km to the next one. It also involves a steep ascent up to around 430 meters in elevation, known as a “henro korogashi” (a particularly tough climbing section of the pilgrimage). Because it is physically demanding, it is recommended to plan your accommodation around Temple 27 as a key reference point.

Recommended accommodation for car pilgrims

Hotel Nahari

Hotel Nahari is a convenient base for car pilgrims, located roughly midway between Temple 26, Kōngōchō-ji, and Temple 27, Kōnomine-ji, making it an ideal stop during the pilgrimage journey.
