By bus, you can travel toward Iwayaji in approximately 45 minutes for ¥550. However, you still need to walk about 20 minutes from the bus stop to the temple grounds, but the bus can significantly reduce the amount of time spent walking.

Things to Keep in Mind When Taking the Bus

There Is a Final Climb to Iwayaji

Getting off the bus does not mean you can immediately enter the grounds of Iwayaji. From the Iwayaji bus stop, it takes about 20 minutes to reach the temple grounds along an uphill path.

Even when taking the bus, make sure to allow enough time for this final walk.

Which Is Better: Walking or Taking the Bus?

If you want to experience the pilgrimage trail, walking is the better option. If you want to save time and energy, taking the bus is more convenient.

However, because bus services operate only on certain days and at limited times, walking gives you more flexibility when planning your itinerary.

Using the bus when the schedule works and walking when it doesn’t is also a practical option for this section.
