Train & Bus Route from Yokomineji to Koonji

From Temple 60, Yokomineji, to Temple 61, Koonji, the journey takes approximately 2 hours and costs about ¥3,000 when using the Yokomineji Pilgrimage Bus together with trains and buses.

The distance is about 10 km and takes approximately 3 hours on foot. Since the route descends steep mountain trails from Yokomineji, located at an elevation of approximately 750 meters, you need to consider not only the distance but also the physical burden of the descent.

On this route, you need to take the Yokomineji Pilgrimage Bus from the Yokomineji parking lot to Uenohara Transfer Point. The pilgrimage bus has specific operating hours and does not operate during the winter season, so be sure to check the schedule in advance.

From Uenohara Transfer Point, take a bus to Saijo Station, then continue to Koonji by bus or train. If you want to reduce the amount of walking, using public transportation is recommended.

Comparing the Public Transportation and Walking Routes

Taking the Train & Bus

When traveling from Yokomineji to Koonji, first take the Yokomineji Pilgrimage Bus down to Uenohara Transfer Point.

From Uenohara Transfer Point, walk to Yokomine Trailhead, then take a bus to Saijo Station. From Saijo Station, continue to Koonji by either bus or train.

The fare is approximately ¥2,900 when using the train and approximately ¥3,060 when using the bus.

The Yokomineji Pilgrimage Bus has specific operating hours and does not operate during the winter season, so be sure to check the operating status before using it.

Walking to Koonji

The walking route is approximately 10 km and takes about 3 hours.

However, this section consists of a mountain trail descending from Yokomineji to a lower elevation, so the physical burden is different from walking 10 km on flat ground.

Although walking is free, the descent requires time and energy. When choosing your route, consider the weather, your physical condition, and your experience with walking on mountain trails.

Which Route Is Recommended?

When traveling from Temple 60, Yokomineji, to Temple 61, Koonji, using public transportation is recommended if you want to reduce the amount of walking or avoid the steep descent from Yokomineji.
