History & Highlights
Jizoji is an ancient temple said to have been founded by Kōbō Daishi at the request of Emperor Saga. After being destroyed during a period of war, it was later rebuilt and now features spacious temple grounds. The temple is renowned for its many highlights, including the Rakan Hall at the inner sanctuary (Okunoin) and a magnificent ginkgo tree estimated to be around 800 years old, making it one of the most historically significant temples on the Shikoku Pilgrimage.

My Walking Experience
The route from Dainichiji to Jizoji is straightforward, descending south with little chance of losing your way. After passing beneath the Tokushima Expressway overpass, you will soon see Jizoji on your right.
When I walked this section, it was a peaceful pilgrimage route surrounded by open rice fields and quiet countryside. Today, however, part of the landscape has changed, with solar panels installed along some sections of the route. While the walk remains easy to follow, it no longer has quite the same rural atmosphere I experienced.
